After a 4 hour bus journey, 1 hour taxi ride, 3 hour bus ride & another taxi - we finally arrived at Holiday One Hotel, Can Tho. Can Tho is the biggest city on the Mekong Delta - which is a mass of rivers and canals that flow into the ocean. Because of all the water, there is an added Mosquito and Malaria risk so we have been taking Malaria tablets.
Can Tho promenade has a huge statue of Ho Chi Minh ; Ho Chi Minh was the leader of the North Vietnam army which were victorious in the American war.

After spending 2 nights in Can Tho City, we moved to the Nguyen Shack. The Shack consisted of 5 bungalows on the side of a river. The shack was home to piglets, kittens & puppies. In the day, we could fish, watch Vietnamese boats pass by & we went on some tours with the staff. We also met a fabulous family from Copenhagen, Denmark.

Amy & Dad's bike tour:
Amy & Dad went on a 2hr bike tour with a few staff members & some other guests. They visited a rice wine making factory, a monastery, a blacksmiths, a school & a rice factory. At the rice wine factory their were pigs & piglets in quite small cages. The reason for this is because the pigs don't get fed food, they get fed the rice wine (Which is 50% alcohol). So the cages are there to stop the pigs from falling over, because they are drunk on the rice wine.

Markets:
Early in the morning, we all hopped onto a Vietnamese boat (owned by the shack) & went on a tour along the lake. The reason we got up so early was because that from 5 - 9am their are floating markets held at the end of the river. We saw boats with pineapples, watermelons, carrots & much more fruit and veggies! Afterwards, we went to some local land markets & it was CRAZY! In Vietnam, people get more money earned if the animals which they are selling is just about alive. We saw fishes in big bowls with a cup full of water, pigs heads & bodies been thrown around & worst of all skinned frogs with no heads still alive!!!

After 4 days in the Mekong Delta we took a taxi for 3 hours to Ho Chi Minh. Ho Chi Minh was called Saigon & was renamed Ho Chi Minh in 1975 when Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese. It was great to see our Danish friends again who stayed at the same hotel as us. We saw all the main sights in Ho Chi Minh by motorbike! Dad had hired 4 motorbikes each with a Vietnamese driver to show us places such as the Notre Dame Cathedral, the GPO & the Renunification Palace.
